Solar One is a 501c(3) organization that enables communities in the New York metropolitan area to thrive in the face of the challenges posed by climate change and embrace a low-carbon, resource-efficient, and socially inclusive world.

Summary of work

The Education Program Manager will be responsible for leading a variety of projects and programs within our K-12 education team. Solar One’s hybrid schedule is flexible, but this position will require in-person teaching throughout the New York metro area. Occasional travel to New York State is possible. Computer work can be done from home or at our offices in Long Island City, Queens.

Main responsibilities of the position:

● Lead Solar One’s flagship professional development training series for NYC DOE teachers which focuses on bringing renewable energy lessons into the classroom.

● Taught Solar One’s program focused on climate action through energy, materials, water and food for students in grades 2-12. Teaching is often done in schools, it is necessary to travel through NYC.

● Coordinate programs with schools and other community partners. This includes program planning, material coordination and scheduling.

● Assist the Director of Education with administrative tasks such as reporting and program evaluation.

Offering an intensive 6-week high school summer program focused on green careers from July to mid-August.

● Oversee curriculum updates in collaboration with the pedagogical team on program and curriculum design.

● Monitoring and recording of activities delivered to schools and teachers.

Qualifications and skills

Successful candidates for this position must be able to demonstrate the following:

Required domain expertise

● 5+ years of experience teaching content aligned with STEM, climate action, and/or environmental sustainability. oom experience strongly preferred

● 3+ years of experience delivering professional development training to teachers

● Experience in writing curricula

● Knowledge of anti-racist and culturally appropriate pedagogy strongly preferred

● Demonstrated success in communicating with partner organizations and individuals to build and maintain strong partnerships

Proof of Covid-19 vaccination is required for this position.

Compensation and Benefits

This position is full time

Pay between $74,000 and $78,000 per year
