Kamloops visual artist Stace DeWolf just completed the largest mural he has ever painted, measuring 562 square feet.

The rock-themed piece was purchased by Kamloops residents and musicians Liz and Guy Olssen to reflect their love of music.

DeWolf says it took him 80 hours to complete the mural.

“This project was passed on to me by a friend and fellow artist Kelly Wright,” said DeWolf. “I’m really grateful he thought of me for that. Liz and Guy provided me with a lot of material they wanted for the mural. I had an idea of what I wanted to do and just started. I surprised them with the way I worked organically and freely. I appreciated the trust they placed in me, as an artist who goes far.

DeWolf describes the project as a roller coaster and he sometimes wondered if he was going to be able to complete it. He went through moments of mental exhaustion. Finally, he loved the experience.

“The best thing an artist can do is move on and move on,” DeWolf said. “I think any growth I have experienced as an artist has been the direct result of persistence and belief in my own abilities. I absolutely loved painting this for Liz and Guy. This genre is so amazing. Some of the coolest images came from this period of rock album art. Bringing this vision to life has been a real honor.

Liz and Guy Olssen wanted the mural to enhance the creative energy of the studio they call the Jam Cellar.

The studio is both the rehearsal space and the recording studio for the Dave Coalmine Band.

Elements of the fresco reflect influential artists in Guy’s musical career, the groups he has performed in, and the musician he and Liz adore. They are very satisfied with the work of DeWolf.

“Stace brought unbridled enthusiasm to the project,” said Olssen. “It was very different from anything he had done before. We gave him the concept of what we were looking for and let him go. His talent shines through in the way the elements come together. The integration of the parts is great. We are very satisfied with the result. Original art has a life of its own and is far more interesting than posters or sterile pictures. It speaks to people. ”
