Art in Transit: Luminato on the GO will have several costumed actors and perform an original piece; Runners can expect dancing, music and colorful costumes
If you’re a little groggy on your Monday morning GO train ride, Metrolinx has a little pick-me-up to go with your coffee.
The Luminato Festival will feature live performances on GO trains over the next few days to entertain passengers on their journey, including Monday morning on the Barrie Line through Newmarket.
What kind of performance, you ask? Well, the show actually takes place on the train.
“The show, known as Art in Transit: Luminato on the Goconsists of several comedians, who will be costumed and perform an original play from select GO stations,” said Metrolinx spokesperson Nitish Bissonauth.
“The show continues on the GO train, where the actors will go from one coach to another and invite customers to follow. Finally, the show ends at Union Station,” he added.
With a day dedicated to each railway line, Art in Transit: Luminato on the Go will run for seven weekdays between June 7 and June 19 and is a first for GO trains.
The show is organized by Luminato Festival, an international arts festival focusing on media, visual arts and performance. They collaborated with Metrolinx to bring their performances to a new medium — a train.
The plot of the show surrounds a fish on its morning journey to the lake. Runners can expect to see lots of dancing, music and colorful costumes.
Bissonauth says performances are a way to “jazz up” the riders’ journey.
